Bicyclist Struck, Killed on Highway 70 in Oroville

OROVILLE, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2023) — A fatal bicycle accident happened last night in Oroville on State Route 70 near the Oroville Dam Boulevard/Highway 162 off ramp.

The collision occurred on Highway 70 at around 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 25th, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials reported a driver in a grey pickup truck struck the bicycle rider due to unknown circumstances.

The Butte County Fire Department responded to the scene to help the injured rider, but sadly the person died following the crash.

Meanwhile, there was a second traffic accident on the opposite side of the roadway. Investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the Oroville bicycle accident.

Oroville Accident Statistics

Oroville collisions involving bicycles claimed the lives of six people in 2020, according to the latest statistics compiled by the Office of Traffic Safety. A total of 132 people were injured or killed in crashes in the city that same year, the report said.
