CROCKETT, Contra Costa County (April 21, 2016) — At least one person died early Thursday morning when a CA Pay Organic big rig truck and four sedans collided on the eastbound Interstate 80 Freeway, just east of the Cummings Skyway on ramp, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 3:22 a.m. this morning, about a mile from the Carquinez Bridge in Contra Costa County. It was one of three collisions in the vicinity. The vehicles involved included a white semi-tractor trailer truck, a gray Volkswagen Passat, a grey Hyundai Sonata and a grey Nissan Altima. Paramedics were called to the scene after it was reported a man in the Volkswagen was bleeding from the arm in the slow lane. The number of people injured was not disclosed.
The coroner was also summoned to the crash site due to at least one person being killed, but there were no further details. The Hyundai and the Volkswagen were both towed away and stored for evidence.
Police are heading up an investigation into what caused the crash and liability.
