Fatal Hit-and-Run Under Investigation in Canoga Park
CANOGA PARK, CA (May 2, 2025) — A tragic hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Sherman Way in Canoga Park early Friday morning has left one man dead.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the fatal collision occurred around 1:15 a.m. on May 2nd, at the intersection of DeSoto Avenue and Sherman Way. Investigators say a Northridge man was walking outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Sherman Way.
Emergency crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene but were unable to save the victim, who was pronounced dead on arrival. The Northridge man’s identity was not released, but he is thought to be in his 60s, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff-Coroner.
The driver initially fled the scene without stopping to render aid, however, while the LAPD Valley Traffic Bureau was investigating the crash scene the suspect returned.
The driver of a Mercedes-Benz involved in the crash, Marvin Edgardo Pineda, 29, was arrested and booked for suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
