Girl, 11, Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash on State Route 1
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2024) — An 11-year-old girl died in a car accident Monday on Highway 1 at Santa Lucia Canyon Road in the Lompoc area of Santa Barbara County.
The two-vehicle collision left several others injured, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred at around 4:55 p.m. on Oct. 1st, near Vandenberg Village and Lompoc, Edhat reported.
CHP officers and deputies from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office responded and began working on the case.
Preliminary results of the investigation determined a 65-year-old man driving a 2020 Toyota Camry with two passengers came to a stop at Santa Lucia Canyon Road. The driver, identified as Jose Gonzalez of Lompoc, initiated a left turn towards Highway 1 and was hit by a southbound 2005 Toyota Prius driven by Shane Giles, 21, of Lompoc.
Passengers Luz Gonzalez, 59, and the 11-year-old girl, were transported to Lompoc Valley Medical Center where the girl died from her injuries. It’s unknown if either of the drivers were injured or hospitalized.
Police closed down State Route 1 for roughly an hour or so to investigate what happened.
There is no further information about the car accident on Highway 1 in Lompoc.
