SACRAMENTO, California (August 17, 2023) —Marcus Winkfield, 53, of Galt, died in a car accident Thursday morning on Highway 104 in Sacramento County.
The head-on collision occurred around 5:20 a.m. on August 17th, at Clay Station Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 35-year-old man was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck westbound on Highway 104 and the 53-year-old Galt man was traveling in a Honda Civic in the opposite direction, ABC 10 News reports.
Witnesses told authorities they saw the driver in the Honda accelerate and cross over the solid double yellow lines into the path of the Dodge. The Honda was reportedly driving the wrong way through a curve in the roadway. The two vehicles collided head on in the collision resulting in fatal injuries for the man in the Honda.
The man who died was on his way to work. He was an officer at the Mule Creek State Prison, according to a statement by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
