Two Men Killed in Rollover Crash on State Route 299
BELLA VISTA, Calif. (August 15, 2024) – Two men died early Thursday morning in a car accident on Highway 299 in the Bella Vista area of Shasta County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, dispatchers received an iPhone alert for the crash at 2:17 a.m. on August 15th.
The collision occurred on State Route 299 near Blue Sky Rd, in Bella Vista, police said.
Police located a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup on its roof in the Salt Creek creek bed, the report said.
Authorities believe the vehicle was traveling eastbound when its driver crashed into a steel guardrail and went off the roadway. The vehicle landed upside down roughly 40 feet below the roadway at the Salt Creek bridge. The vehicle was missing its left rear wheel and damaged roughly 200 feet of guardrail.
Both occupants of the vehicle died at the scene, but their age and names were not released.
Investigators are working on the cause of the fatal accident on Highway 299 to determine fault.
