2-Vehicle Fatal Crash on State Route 4 at Old River
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. (August 9, 2018) — A 24-year-old South Lake Tahoe resident died Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on state Route 4 at the Old River bridge, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place near the county line between Contra Costa and San Joaquin County.
The crash took place about 8:31 a.m. and prompted a SigAlert for Highway 4. A driver in a 1998 Lexus reportedly “hit gravel, spun out and hit a pickup truck,” the report said. There is a large patch of gravel next to the roadway, just approaching the Old River bridge. This is likely where the incident took place.
Two flatbed tow trucks were called to remove the damaged vehicles.
The crash remains under investigation by police to determine liability.
San Joaquin County Accident Investigation
At this time, we do not know all the facts about this case. It does appear that the driver who spun out may have been responsible, but it’s unknown if a roadway hazard or mechanical problem was a factor. The driver may have veered off the roadway and then back onto it. Police are also looking into whether speed contributed to this crash.
We extend our condolences to the family of the person who died in this crash.
Anyone who is injured or has lost a loved one in a collision due to a negligent driver or drivers, can file a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver to compensate them for their financial losses. While this can be done without an attorney, the results are oftentimes lower because insurance companies have the ultimate power without the threat of a lawsuit.
