Pickup, SUV Involved in Rollover Crash on Highway 65
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Jan. 18, 2024) — Two vehicles overturned Wednesday night in a fatal car accident on Highway 65, just north of State Route 155 and Bakersfield.
The drivers of a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Nissan SUV collided at around 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 17th, according to the California Highway Patrol. One wound up on the right side and one on the left side of the highway.
The driver in the SUV was allegedly traveling northbound when its driver veered into southbound lanes and crashed into the pickup truck, according to a report by KGET.
Two people died and another was severely injured in the multi-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of Highway 65. The pickup truck caught on fire following the traffic accident and bystanders pulled the driver out of the vehicle.
Paramedics responded and airlifted the pickup truck driver to Kern Medical Center for treatment of a shattered right femur. Meanwhile, two people from the Nissan were confirmed dead on scene. KGET reports they were a 58-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man.
Authorities closed down the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 65 to clear the roadway and conduct an investigation into what happened.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the collision. Witnesses or anyone with information about the collision may contact the California Highway Patrol in Bakersfield at 661-396-6600.
