Fatal Car Accident on Panama Road and Tejon Highway in Kern County

Fatal Crash Near Di Giorgio, South of Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif., (Sept. 3, 2026) — A 68-year-old Bakersfield man died early Thursday morning in a car accident on Panama Road and Tejon Highway south of Bakersfield in Kern County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal incident occurred on Sept. 3rd at approximately 4:48 a.m. between a red 2007 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and a black 2001 Honda Civic. Authorities say the Bakersfield man was traveling eastbound on Panama Road approaching a stop sign at Tejon Highway, when the car collided with the southbound pickup truck traveling on Tejon Highway without a stop sign.
The driver of the Honda suffered major injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, the 64-year-old McFarland man driving the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Emergency responders, including the coroner, were dispatched to the scene. As of the latest updates, Golden Empire Towing was called to assist in clearing the vehicles from the roadway.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family. The impact of the crash necessitated the closure of the area as authorities conducted their investigation into the tragic circumstances.
