
2 Killed, 1 Injured in Head-on Crash on Highway 76
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2023) – Two people died in a head-on car accident Wednesday morning on State Route 76 at Pala Mission Road near the casino in San Diego’s North County.
The two-vehicle collision happened just after 12 a.m. on state Route 76 near the Pala Casino Spa Resort, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP reports 43-year-old Jesus Munoz was driving a maroon Nissan Xterra SUV on State Route 76 when his vehicle veered over into opposing traffic and crashed head-on into a white Toyota SUV.
The 65-year-old Vista man driving the Toyota, along with his 59-year-old female passenger, both suffered fatal injuries and died on scene, according to a report by ABC 10News. .
The incident was captured on security cameras operated by the Pala Reservation.
The Nissan’s driver reportedly exited the vehicle and laid on the SUV’s roof. Paramedics responded and transported the Nissan’s driver to Palomar Hospital.
Also, an injured pit bull dog riding in the Nissan was removed from the wreckage and taken into custody of animal control workers, but it will survive its injuries.
Investigators are working on the case to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors.
