Lumber Falls Off Truck Fatally Hits Truck Driver on Freeway
CHATSWORTH, Calif. (Jan. 8, 2024) — A motorist struck by lumber falling off a truck died Monday morning on the westbound Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway in Chatsworth.
The traffic accident occurred in the No. 2 lane of State Route 118 at about 8:50 a.m. on Jan. 8th, just east of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Los Angeles Police Department officers and Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene.
Detectives reported a driver in a flatbed truck traveling on the freeway lost lumber. The wood flew off the back of the flatbed trailer and crashed into a yellow Penske moving truck and also hit a blue Honda Pilot SUV. The driver of the Penske truck was impaled and died following the collision.
Investigators are working on the case.
