CHIRIACO SUMMIT, Calif. (Jan. 30, 2023) — A fatal crash involving an SUV and a semi-truck happened Monday morning on the Interstate 10 Freeway at Hayfield Road in Chiriaco Summit.
The two-vehicle collision occurred about 4:14 a.m. on Jan. 30th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A semi-truck reportedly crashed into an SUV in the westbound lanes of the Interstate 10 Freeway, just west of Hayfield Road, the report said. Upon impact, the SUV became engulfed in flames and it appears the occupant or occupants were trapped inside.
The semi-truck driver called 911 for help and told operators the driver did not exit the SUV.
Meanwhile, CAL FIRE Riverside responded and found at least one person who died in the SUV.
Also, a tow truck came to remove the completely-burned vehicle from the center divider of the roadway.
Additionally, the semi-truck suffered major front-end damage in the wreck.
Meanwhile, investigators are piecing together what happened and will determine fault for the crash.
The Riverside County Sheriff Coroner will identified the victim or victims after relatives are notified about the deadly crash.
