Fatal Chula Vista Motorcycle Crash I-805 Freeway, Telegraph Canyon Road

Fatal Chula Vista Motorcycle Crash I-805 Freeway, Telegraph Canyon Road

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (July 3, 2025) — A San Diego man is facing murder charges following a fatal motorcycle crash Monday night that shut down several lanes of southbound Interstate 805 in Chula Vista for more than 12 hours, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on June 30th just north of Telegraph Canyon Road. Investigators say the 22-year-old suspect was behind the wheel of a red 2023 Tesla Model Y and was driving at high speeds when he allegedly “intentionally” struck the rear of a gray 2025 BMW motorcycle.

Jorge Uribe, 53, Killed in Motorcycle Crash

The motorcyclist, identified as 53-year-old Jorge Uribe of Chula Vista, died at the scene.

After hitting the motorcycle, the Tesla continued on and collided with a black 2012 Ram 1500 pickup carrying six occupants. All six suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were transported to local hospitals.

Following the crash, the Tesla driver reportedly fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after by CHP officers. He has been charged with multiple felonies, including murder.

Emergency crews remained at the scene well into the next day, with lanes reopening around noon Tuesday. The prolonged closure significantly disrupted morning traffic.

CHP officials say the investigation is ongoing and involves the agency’s Border Division Major Crimes Unit. Authorities are reviewing dashcam footage and examining reports that the Tesla may have reached speeds of up to 100 mph prior to impact. One witness’s rear-facing camera showed the Tesla traveling at a minimum of 66 mph.

“The California Highway Patrol is committed to conducting a complete and thorough investigation into this incident,” said CHP Captain M. Vargas. “We owe it to the victims and their families to ensure that all facts are uncovered, and justice is served.”

Anyone with additional information is urged to contact CHP’s Major Crimes Unit at (858) 944-6300.
