CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. (Nov. 28, 2017) — A man was struck and killed Monday afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle in an unincorporated area near Whittier.
The fatal crash was reported to police about 5:50 p.m. on Peck Road, north of Rooks Road, the California Highway Patrol reported. The driver was described as a 73-year-old El Monte woman. She was driving a 2006 Honda CRV and heading north on Peck Road at the time of the accident.
The victim died of his injuries at the scene, the CHP reported.
Whenever there is an accident involving a pedestrian and a car, police will attempt to piece together evidence and witness statements to determine fault. It appears this collision took place at or near an intersection where there are traffic lights. The report states the victim was outside of a crosswalk, but vehicles are required to yield to pedestrians. In a situation such as this one, there could be shared liability between the victim and the driver.
