COALINGA, Calif., (August 27, 2026) — A tragic collision involving two pickup trucks resulted in a fatality on eastbound Highway 198 at Wartham Street in Coalinga on Thursday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident, reported on August 27th at approximately 3:28 p.m., involved a white Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck and a white Ford pickup truck with a trailer. Both vehicles were initially located on the right-hand side of the road, with eastbound lanes blocked due to the severity of the crash.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the collision was reported. Unfortunately, one party was unable to be extricated from their vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second individual was transferred via Life Flight to Coalinga Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, while another party was transported with minor injuries.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene later in the evening. The collision remains under active investigation to determine the cause and any potential contributing factors. Authorities are requesting any witnesses to come forward with information that might aid in the investigation.
