Two-Vehicle Crash on SR-67 in Eucalyptus Hills Area
SAN DIEGO, Calif., (Oct. 5, 2026) — A fatal collision happened Monday on State Route 67 south of Slaughterhouse Canyon Road and north of Lakeside in the Eucalyptus Hills area.
The traffic accident caused significant disruptions and invoking a response from multiple emergency services, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred on Oct. 5th at approximately 10:49 a.m. on the southbound lanes of SR-67 near the San Vicente Reservoir in the East County area. The incident involved a silver Nissan Frontier pickup truck and a white Nissan Rogue SUV. The SUV was reportedly overturned, trapping its occupants inside including one person who died at the scene. There was also a small fire, but a bystander extinguished it before help arrived.
Emergency responders, including Barona Medic 27, swiftly arrived on the scene. One patient was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, though their condition remains undisclosed at this time. Tragically, at least one individual has been confirmed deceased as a result of the collision, although further details about the victim’s identity have not yet been released.
Authorities have issued a SigAlert, leading to the closure of both northbound and southbound lanes on SR67 as they conduct their investigation and ensure the scene is safe for traffic. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. They are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward to assist with their inquiries.
