Fatal Crash 134 Freeway Transition to the I-5 Freeway in Glendale

Fatal Crash 134 Freeway Transition to the I-5 Freeway in Glendale

Two-Vehicle Crash at Glendale-Los Angeles Border Shuts Down Freeway Connector

GLENDALE, Calif. (Sept. 10, 2025) — A fatal collision early Wednesday morning happened at the westbound 134 Freeway transition to the northbound Interstate 5, impacting traffic for hours at the Los Angeles-Glendale border near Griffith Park, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at about 3:10 a.m. on September 10, 2025, near the connector ramps where the I-5 passes under the 134 Freeway. Initial reports indicated a gray sedan struck a concrete wall and came to rest in the No. 1 lane. A second vehicle, a white BMW 328i, was also involved in the crash.

The grey sedan reportedly burst into flames, and Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded. Firefighters were unable to rescue one person trapped in the grey sedan and that person died at the scene. Meanwhile, another individual was transported to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center with minor injuries.

CHP issued a SigAlert at 3:32 a.m., shutting down the northbound I-5 at the 134 connector while traffic was diverted onto the eastbound and westbound 134 Freeway. Multiple lanes were blocked for several hours as tow trucks cleared the wreckage and Caltrans crews assisted with traffic control.

By 6:48 a.m., CHP supervisors requested additional units to help with reopening the freeway.

The identity of the person killed has not yet been released, pending notification of family.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
