5 Freeway Fatality at Derrick Ave
CANTUA CREEK, California (August 2, 2017) – A bloodied man who was attempting to flag down passing motorists early Wednesday morning after a crash on the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway, near the Derrick Avenue off ramp, a California Highway Patrol report said.
Another motorists reported a person was down on the right shoulder of the roadway and a big rig and a cargo van were pulled over and stopped near the scene.
A vehicle was located about 50 feet down a nearby ravine and police believe the man had gotten out after the crash to get help from passing motorists.
Cantua Creek Fatal Crash Investigation
At least one person died in the collision, but there were no further details about what led to the crash and if there were more than one vehicle involved.
Police are investigating what led to the fatal crash and will determine liability. It’s unclear whether or not this was a solo collision or if other motorists were involved. The family of those who died in this collision may have legal remedies such as a civil lawsuit against a negligent motorist or in some cases a defective vehicle. The cause of the crash will be determined by a police investigation, but an independent attorney will help identify who may be held financially liable for a collision whether it’s another motorist, a government entity or an auto manufacturer.
