Girl, 9, Killed, 4 Injured in Solo Car Accident
CONCORD, Calif. (April 8, 2024) — A 9-year-old girl died and four women were injured in a solo-vehicle crash Sunday on the Interstate 680 Freeway at the split with Highway 242 in Concord.
The child was identified as Danna Hernandez Tapia, of Oregon, according to NBC news.
The collision occurred at 5:14 a.m., on April 7th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers and paramedics responded to the crash at the I-680/Highway 242 split, the report said.
A man driving an SUV with six occupants had been heading northbound when he lost control and crashed off the roadway. The vehicle overturned several times before it landed on its roof in the dirt median.
The 9-year-old riding in the SUV sustained major injuries died at the crash scene.
Meanwhile, four women from the SUV were transported to the hospital major injuries.
CHP officials are searching for the 30-year-old man who was driving the SUV who fled the scene on foot.
Finally, police are investigating the circumstances and asking witnesses or anyone with information about the suspect to call them at 925-646-4980.
