Man, 19, Killed, 5 Injured in Cathedral City Collision
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (April 9, 2024) — A 19-year-old man is dead and five other people were injured Tuesday following a two-vehicle crash on Cathedral Canyon Drive in Cathedral City.
The Cathedral City Police Department responded to the crash scene at around 9:21 p.m. on Monday, April 8th on Cathedral Canyon Drive, according to MyNewsLA.
A 19-year-old man driving one of the vehicles reportedly collided with a second motorist who was turning left from Cathedral Canyon to 33rd Avenue, the report said.
The northbound vehicle was reportedly speeding along Cathedral Canyon Drive when it struck the southbound motorist who was making the turn.
The teenager’s car also crashed into two mailboxes and wound up in a driveway where it hit two parked cars, the report said.
The Cathedral City Fire Department responded and rushed six people to a hospital.
The young driver sustained major injuries and died at the hospital. Meanwhile, his four passengers including a juvenile boy, a juvenile girl, a 20-year-old woman and 21-year-old woman were all injured in the crash and taken to a hospital.
Also, the driver in the second vehicle was uninjured, but a passenger from the vehicle had minor injuries treated at the hospital.
Investigators are working on the case and noted there were two loaded, unregistered handguns in the vehicle driven by the 19-year-old.
