Man, 74, Operating Backhoe Killed in Crash with Trucks
KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (Nov. 15, 2021) — A 74-year-old man operating a Caterpillar backhoe tractor died in a King County crash on Dairy Avenue near Salem Avenue, south of Corcoran.
The collision happened about 8 a.m. on Nov. 13th over the weekend, the California Highway Patrol said.
The unidentified man was operating a Caterpillar backhoe along the shoulder of Dairy Avenue before moving onto the roadway.
Meanwhile, an oncoming Freightliner semi-truck crashed into him and the victim was thrown off the Caterpillar as it overturned, police said.
Soon afterwards, another driver in a garbage truck struck both the truck and the Caterpillar tractor.
Sadly, the CHP reported the 74-year-old man died at the scene on Dairy Avenue.
Meanwhile, paramedics responded and transported the 35-year-old semi-truck driver with minor injuries to Kaweah Health Medical Center. There were no other injuries.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the crash, but preliminary facts indicated that fog conditions in the area may have contributed to the fatal crash.
