Carlos Galindo, Girl, 17, Killed in Crash on Fahey Road
MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (March 2, 2022) — A fatal crash on Fahey Road at Cherokee Road happened Wednesday afternoon in the Santa Nella area of Merced County, just north of Los Banos.
The CHP reported the crash at 2:38 p.m. on March 1st at the Merced County intersection.
The drivers of a Honda and a Nissan were both traveling eastbound on Fahey Road. The Nissan driver reportedly lost control and crashed into a telephone pole. The white Honda also lost control and struck a guard rail before it overturned into a nearby canal, while the Nissan became wrapped around a telephone pole. Authorities noted in the CHP dispatch that the Honda sedan had major 360-degree damage following the crash, the report said.
Firefighters responded to the crash scene where two people were pinned in their vehicles. The occupants of the Nissan, a 17-year-old girl and Carlos Galindo, 25, both died at the scene. Neither of them were wearing a seatbelt, police said. Meanwhile, the driver in the Honda suffered minor injuries.
Tow trucks headed to the scene to remove the damaged vehicles.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine fault.
