Deadly Crash at ‘Orange Crush’ Freeway Interchange
ORANGE, Calif. (July 31, 2023) — A fatal crash involving two vehicles happened on Sunday morning on the eastbound Garden Grove 22 Freeway before the transition to the I-5 Freeway in an area known as the “Orange Crush.”
The busy interchange connects State Route 22, the Interstate 5 and the Orange 57 Freeway.
The collision occurred in the Nos. 2 and 3 lanes, just west of the I-5 and 57 freeways around 10:20 a.m. on July 30th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the drivers involved were in a grey Toyota Tundra pickup truck and a small white sedan.
One person died at the scene within minutes of the crash and the Orange County coroner’s office responded to the scene.
Meanwhile, authorities issued a Sigalert at 11:24 a.m. and also closed down the transition road to allow police to gather evidence and clear the crash scene.
The CHP is heading up the investigation.
