Maryland Woman Among Two Dead | Pickup Truck Plunges into San Diego Bay
San Diego, CA (April 17, 2025) – A 53-year-old woman from Maryland and an Oceanside man, 45, both died last week when a pickup truck veered off Harbor Island Drive and plunged into San Diego Bay.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as Anne Achieng Confer and David Montgomery Jr., 45, of Oceanside.
Both confer and Montgomery were killed in the crash at approximately 9:05 p.m. on April 10, 2025, in the 1400 block of Harbor Island Drive. There were three people traveling in a GMC pickup truck southbound on Harbor Island Drive when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the water.
Emergency responders were dispatched quickly after a 911 call was made. Both victims were extricated from the submerged vehicle by rescue personnel and the woman was transported to UCSD Medical Center, where efforts to revive her continued. Despite intensive lifesaving measures, she was pronounced dead at 10:14 p.m.
Meanwhile, David Montgomery was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital and later pronounced dead two days later at 2:19 p.m. on April 12th. The condition of a second female occupant is unknown at this time.
The San Diego Harbor Police are leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. The exact cause and manner of death remain pending, as do toxicology results and the findings of a full forensic examination.
Authorities have not released the name or condition of the third individuals involved.
