Fatal Crash Highway 101 at Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza in San Francisco

Early Morning Collision Involving Motorcyclist on Hwy 101
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Dec. 31, 2025) — One person was killed early Wednesday morning in a crash involving a motorcycle rider in San Francisco on the southbound U.S. Highway 101 near the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol received an initial traffic collision notification shortly after 3 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 just north of the toll plaza, according to a CHP incident log. Multiple agencies were notified, including Marin County Fire, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Transportation.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene, and fire crews were dispatched amid reports of a serious collision. The incident was later classified as a fatality. Details about the victim, including identity and whether other vehicles were involved, were not immediately released.
CHP officers requested an evidence tow for a green motorcycle, indicating a motorcycle was involved in the crash. Tow services were authorized by Golden Gate Bridge officials, and an evidence tow removed the motorcycle from the scene. CHP officers later followed the tow truck back to its yard as part of the investigation.
Traffic impacts were reported in the early morning hours, though all lanes were reopened by approximately 6:03 a.m., according to CHP.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet released information regarding contributing factors such as speed, impairment, or road conditions. Anyone who witnessed the collision is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol.
