Deadly, Chain-Reaction Crash on Highway 101, near Gonzales
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. — One man is dead after a chain-reaction crash on Highway 101 near Gloria Road Saturday near Gonzales in Soledad, Monterey County.
The deadly crash involving at least four motorists occurred on southbound US 101 at 11:45 a.m. on Oct. 19th, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch report.
Authorities report a 16-year-old from Salinas was driving a white 2021 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck and trailer when the vehicle rear-ended a Chevrolet Colorado pickup. The impact caused the 49-year-old Salinas man driving the Colorado to lose control of his vehicle. The Colorado pickup overturned and the man driving it died on scene.
Meanwhile, a male passenger from the Colorado pickup truck was taken to Natividad Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
Other vehicles involved included a white Honda Accord with major rear-end damage and a red Toyota Sienna with moderate rear-end damage.
Also, the teenage driver of the Chevrolet 2500 was not hurt and no arrests have been made at this time.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is heading up the investigation.
