Head-on Collision on State Route 135 in Orcutt
ORCUTT, Calif. (Sept. 23, 2024) — A fatal crash in the Orcutt area happened Monday at Highway 135 and East Foster Road.
A woman was killed and a man was seriously injured after the head-on crash on SR-135. It happened on the Orcutt Expressway just before noon on Sept. 23rd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The drivers of a blue 2015 Honda Civic and a black 2020 Nissan Altima sedan were involved.
Jordan Gutierrez, 26, of Santa Maria, was driving the Nissan northbound on Highway 135, near the intersection of Foster Road.
He reportedly veered into southbound traffic and crashed head-on into the Honda Civic in the right-turn lane. The front of the Honda was crushed and the 79-year-old Santa Maria woman driving the Honda suffered severe injuries.
Meanwhile, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department sent crews to the scene. They extricated the woman from the Honda.
Both motorists were transported by ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center. However, the elderly woman later died from her injuries at the hospital.
Authorities closed down the Nos. 1 and 2 lanes of Highway 135, but the roadway reopened by 1 p.m., the report said.
The California Highway Patrol is heading up the investigation.
