2 Killed, 3 Injured in Head-on Crash
BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. (August 8, 2023) – Two people were killed and three injured Sunday afternoon in a head-on crash on Highway 149, just south of Highway 99 in Butte County.
Dangelo Charles, 26, of Sacramento, was driving a 2014 Volkswagen southbound on Highway 149 when he allegedly crossed over the center dirt median into oncoming traffic traveling northbound on SR-149, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Volkswagen crashed head-on into a northbound green 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck in the No. 2 lane of the highway, Action News Now reports.
Two Killed in Highway 149 Crash
Upon impact, two people from the Ford Ranger suffered major injuries and died at the scene, the CHP said.
Meanwhile, Dangelo Charles suffered major injuries and was also arrested at the hospital on undisclosed charges. Furthermore, his two passengers, Fayth Mccan-Bush, 22, of Paradise, and a 3-year-old child, also suffered major injuries and were both taken to Enloe Hospital.
Authorities are investigating whether drugs and or alcohol were factors that contributed to the deadly crash.
Meanwhile, the names of the two people from the pickup truck who died in the collision will be released after their family members are notified.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
