Multi-Vehicle Car Accident on State Route 17
SAN JOSE, Calif. (May 26, 2023) — A fatal two-vehicle crash on the southbound Highway 17 happened Friday morning, just north of Hamilton Avenue in San Jose.
A man and woman riding in a Mercedes exited their stalled car in one of the southbound lanes of Highway 17 and were struck by oncoming vehicles as they stood near the vehicle.
The drivers of a gray minivan and a gray Honda Civic were involved in the crash around 4:12 a.m. on May 26th, according to the California Highway Patrol report. The minivan’s airbags were deployed and its driver’s side door was open when police arrived.
Also, the drivers of a Toyota Corolla and a garbage truck stopped to help those involved until police and paramedics arrived on scene, the report said.
Paramedics responded to help those involved in the collision, but sadly the man and woman from the Mercedes both died. It’s unknown how many others may have been injured.
Police issued a SigAlert due to the vehicles blocking traffic lanes and the subsequent investigation.
Tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles and police are heading up an investigation into the cause of the crash and liability.
