Head-on Collision Highway 246 in Lompoc

LOMPOC, Calif. (Monday, Feb. 12, 2024) — A fatal, two-vehicle crash happened Sunday on Highway 246 at Mission Gate Road in the Lompoc area.

The collision occurred at around 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 11th, according to KSBY and the California Highway Patrol.

UPDATE: Driver killed in Lompoc crash identified

CHP officials reported a driver in a 1997 Saab sedan heading westbound allegedly crossed over the highway’s double yellow lines into the eastbound lanes. Apparently, roughly half of the sedan was over the lines and the front end of the Saab hit the front of an eastbound Chevrolet pickup truck.

Paramedics responded to help both drivers who were injured in the collision, but the 43-year-old Lompoc man driving the Saab died.

Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Solvang man driving the pickup truck was transported to a hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Police are investigating the crash and asking for witnesses to contact the Buellton-area CHP Office at (805) 688-5551.
