2 Killed in Crash on Highway 395 Near California-Nevada Border
CHILCOOT-VINTON, Calif. (Dec. 28, 2021) — A fatal head-on crash on Highway 395 happened Tuesday in the Chilcoot-Vinton area near the Nevada-California border.
The California Highway Patrol reported the collision at 10:22 a.m. on Dec. 28th between the drivers of a big rig truck and a 2005 Toyota Tundra pickup truck.
A 41-year-old Reno woman driving the pickup was heading southbound on Highway 395. Meanwhile, a 60-year-old man from Maxwell, California was driving a 2018 Peterbilt Tractor and trailer was heading northbound in the opposite direction. One of the vehicles reportedly veered into the path of the other one and both vehicles went off the roadway, police said. The 58-foot box truck wound up in a snowy ditch about 20 feet off the side of the roadway.
Paramedics responded to the scene to help those injured. However, the CHP report later confirmed the Reno woman, and a 49-year-old Reno man riding as a passenger in the pickup, both died in the fatal crash on Highway 395.
Tow trucks removed both the truck and pickup from the scene for evidence.
