MARTINEZ, Calif. (Feb. 1, 2023) — At least one person is dead after a fatal crash on the westbound Highway 4, just east of the Pine Street off ramp in the Martinez area.
The deadly crash occurred about 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 1st in Contra Costa County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Two or three vehicles including a maroon Toyota SUV were involved in the collision and were blocking all traffic lanes, the report said. It’s unknown at this time what led up to the traffic accident.
Kellye Van Patten, 44, of San Jose, was ejected from a vehicle and died at the scene, the report said.
Authorities closed down the Morello Avenue on ramp to the westbound Highway 4 and issued a SigAlert.
An investigation is underway to determine fault for the Martinez crash on Highway 4.
