1 Killed, 1 Injured in Crash on State Route 4
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, Calif. (August 31, 2023) — A fatal crash happened Thursday morning on the eastbound Highway 4 at the San Marco Boulevard North on ramp in the Bay Point area of Contra Costa County.
A driver in a Honda Pilot SUV crashed into the back of a disabled Jeep Cherokee that was partially blocking the fast lane and center divide. The Jeep was involved in an earlier collision, possibly with a semi-truck.
The traffic accident occurred around 1:55 a.m. on August 31st, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch report.
Paramedics responded and pronounced the driver from the Jeep deceased at the scene. Meanwhile, they transported the driver of the SUV to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Tow trucks removed both vehicles due to major damage.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the fatal crash on Highway 4. Witnesses or anyone with dashboard camera footage, may contact CHP Contra Costa in Martinez at 925-646-4980.
