2-Vehicle Collision on State Route 62 in Desert Hot Springs

Desert Hot Springs, Calif. (May 16, 2024) — A Twentynine Palms man died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 62 near North Indian Canyon Drive in Desert Hot Springs.

The traffic accident occurred at around 2:26 a.m. on May 16th, according to reports by Z107.7 and the California Highway Patrol.

A Yucca Valley man was driving a Hyundai westbound on State Route 62 and made a left-hand turn towards N. Indian Canyon Drive. The Hyundai turned in front of an oncoming, eastbound Dodge, police said.

Upon impact, the Dodge kept traveling in an eastbound direction and crashed into a streetlight pole on the corner of the intersection.

The Twentynine Palms man driving the Dodge unfortunately died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Hyundai was treated for minor injuries.

Police closed down the eastbound lanes of Highway 62 for roughly two hours to investigate the fatal crash.

Finally, the California Highway Patrol’s Indio office is heading up the investigation and they do not suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
