Major Head-on Crash Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Injured
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (March 23, 2020) — One person was reported dead early Monday morning in a head-on crash on State Route 67 near Foster Truck Trail in the Lakeside community.
The collision, which involved four motorists, was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 6:52 a.m. just north of Lakeside and south of Ramona. The report stated that the northbound lanes were completely blocked and the vehicles were “smashed up pretty good.” The drivers involved included a black Jeep Grand Cherokee, a PT Cruiser, a black Dodge pickup truck and trailer and a black compact car.
The driver of one of the involved vehicles was ejected and killed on scene. Another driver was trapped in the PT Cruiser, police said. Paramedics responded to the scene, but were unable to save the person. Meanwhile, a second person was critically injured and transported to a local hospital, according to California Highway Patrol.
Police closed down State Route 67 between Slaughterhouse Canyon Road in Lakeside and Scripps Poway Parkway.
The circumstances prior to the crash are under investigation.
There were no further details about what happened.
