2 Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on State Route Highway 99
RED BLUFF, Calif. (August 23, 2021) — A fatal crash on Highway 99 left two people dead Sunday morning, just north of Los Molinos.
A Hayward man, 59, and an Oroville woman, 54, both died in the multi-vehicle collision.
The Hayward man was driving a 2009 Ford Focus northbound on Highway 99 just north of Butler Street.
About 7:35 a.m., his Ford entered the southbound lane directly into the path of an oncoming 2019 Isuzu driven by Nicholas Hall, 39, of Anderson, according to the California Highway Patrol. Meanwhile, the Oroville woman was driving a 2007 Nissan Sentra behind the Isuzu.
Hall attempted to avoid the collision and swerved towards the southbound shoulder. The Ford clipped the left side of the Isuzu, but continued driving the wrong way in the southbound lane before he crashed head-on into the woman’s Nissan Sentra.
Both the Hayward man and Oroville woman suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, Hall and his passenger, Michael Zuhlke, 24, Red Bluff, escaped injuries.
Authorities will release the names of the deceased drivers after notifying next of kin.
