One Killed in Crash Involving Semi-Truck on Northbound Highway 99

MANTECA, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2026) — One person was killed in a violent crash involving a semi-truck and a pickup Friday afternoon on northbound State Route 99 in Manteca near the Lathrop Road off-ramp, authorities said.

The collision was reported on Jan. 2nd shortly before 12:50 p.m., according to a California Highway Patrol incident log. Initial reports indicated a crash involving two to three vehicles, later confirmed as a semi-truck with a 53-foot trailer and a pickup truck towing a utility trailer. Debris was scattered across all lanes, and all northbound lanes were immediately shut down.

Fire crews responded to reports of a vehicle fire, and the roadway remained completely blocked as emergency personnel worked the scene. CHP later confirmed the crash resulted in a fatality, with one individual pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim was not immediately released, pending notification of next of kin.

The crash caused significant traffic disruptions, with all northbound traffic diverted off SR-99 at Lathrop Road for approximately 90 minutes. Several vehicles became trapped between the closure and the collision scene before traffic could be turned around.

Tow services were called to remove heavily damaged vehicles, including a Dodge Ram and trailer that were described as being in pieces. By mid-afternoon, crews had cleared debris and reopened the roadway.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
