Fatal Crash Highway 99 near Merced Street in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (Dec. 12, 2023) — A fatal two-vehicle crash happened Monday afternoon on both sides of Highway 99 near the Merced Street off ramp in Fresno.

The deadly collision occurred at around 3:20 p.m. on Dec. 11th, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials reported a blue pickup truck and a gray Chrysler 200 sedan collided due to unknown circumstances. Upon impact, the pickup truck reportedly crossed the center divider from the northbound State Route 99 into southbound lanes. The vehicle was facing the wrong way in the No. 1 lane when it came to a stop on the freeway, police said.

The second vehicle reportedly fled the scene of the crash.

Meanwhile, at least one person sustained major injuries and died at the scene.

Investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the fatal crash on Highway 99.
