Woman Killed, Sierra Miguel, 31, Arrested in Head-on Crash
BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2023) – A fatal head-on crash claimed the life of a young woman on Highway 99, near State Route 162 (Richvale Highway) near Oroville in Butte County.
The deadly, two-vehicle collision occurred at about 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30th when a northbound driver allegedly attempted to pass a semi-truck and crossed into the southbound lanes, according to Action News Now.
The driver in a black Cadillac Escalade SUV crashed head-on into a southbound Honda Accord, killing that driver and injuring a toddler in a car seat traveling as a passenger in the SUV.
The young woman driving the blue Honda became trapped in her vehicle died following the crash. Her car’s front end was completely destroyed. Her name has not been released at this time.
However, the driver of the SUV was identified as Sierra Miguel, 31, of Arcata. She was taken to a hospital with undisclosed major injuries and was later arrested on vehicular manslaughter charges. It’s unknown if alcohol and or drugs were a factor at this time.
Meanwhile, the child traveling in the SUV was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The car seat likely saved the child’s life, police said.
Finally, two pit bulls were thrown out of one of the vehicles and authorities were trying to locate them.
The case remains under investigation.
