Head-on Crash on State Route 99; DUI Suspect Arrested

SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2023) — A 63-year-old man died in a head-on crash with a suspected DUI driver on Highway 99 and Sacramento Avenue Thursday morning in Sutter County.

The deadly, two-vehicle crash occurred at around 12:19 a.m. on Oct. 19th, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatch.

A 27-year-old Yuba City man driving a 2008 Honda Accord reportedly veered into the path of a second motorist traveling northbound and the two vehicles collided head-on, according to the Sacramento Bee.

One of the vehicles overturned during the collision and the other was blocking traffic lanes, police said.

The older man sustained major injuries and died at the scene. The Sutter County Sheriff Coroner will identify him after relatives are notified.

Meanwhile, police arrested the younger man on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI after the collision.

The case remains under investigation.
