ANAHEIM, Calif., (Sept. 3, 2026) — A tragedy unfolded early Thursday on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway when two people were ejected and died in a car in a crash at the Lincoln Avenue off-ramp in Anaheim.

The solo-vehicle collision, reported at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Sept. 3rd, involved a white SUV traveling at high speeds, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch logs. According to witness statements, the vehicle appeared to miss the exit, went to take it, and subsequently flew off the side of the freeway.

Two Ejected in Collision on I-5 Freeway

Emergency responders discovered the SUV on its top, down an embankment. Two occupants were inside, and two were ejected from the vehicle. Both individuals were found underneath the vehicle but were breathing and responsive at the time of the initial response.

Emergency personnel, including California Highway Patrol officers and fire crews, arrived promptly at the scene. Despite the swift response, two people died on scene, and the coroner was notified at 3:55 a.m. The collision resulted in significant roadway damage, necessitating a hard closure of four lanes from the mainline and the off-ramp.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and authorities are appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information that might aid in the reconstruction of events leading up to the collision.
