4 Killed, 3 Injured in 2-Vehicle Crash on I-5 Freeway
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (March 2, 2022) — A fatal crash today on the Interstate 5 Freeway in the Cantua Creek area of Fresno County left four people dead and three others with major injuries.
The crash happened just before 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2nd in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5, just north of Derrick Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of a minivan crashed into a 18-wheeler semi-truck parked on the shoulder due to unknown reasons. CHP dispatchers reported four people were on the ground in traffic lanes following the collision. It appears they were ejected during the collision.
Paramedics responded and rushed three people by ambulance to hospitals. The freeway remained closed for roughly six hours.
It’s unknown at this time what led up to the collision between the big rig truck and the car. Investigators are piecing together evidence and will determine fault for the crash.
