Mechanic Killed in Truck Accident on Interstate 5 Near Peltier Road, Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif., (May 5, 2026) — A tragic accident left a mechanic dead early Tuesday morning when two semi-trucks collided on Interstate 5 northbound, just off Peltier Road in Stockton.

The incident, which was reported on May 5th at approximately 6:17 a.m., involved a mechanic who was working on a disabled gray semi-truck with a trailer that was stopped on the shoulder. Meanwhile, a driver in a white Volvo big rig truck carrying cardboard reportedly fell asleep. The trucker reportedly drifted to the right shoulder where the vehicle hit the pedestrian and the disabled truck. The collision left the male mechanic trapped underneath the stopped semi-truck, according to emergency responders. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) issued a SigAlert for the closure of the No. 2 lane for at least two hours, causing significant traffic delays.

Firefighters from the Stockton Fire Department responded to the scene, confirming their presence at around 6:42 a.m. Efforts were made to clear the scene, and by 9:13 a.m., all lanes were reported open again. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading up to the crash. Witnesses are urged to come forward with any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
