Fatal Crash on Northbound I-5 Near West Street Under Investigation

YOLO COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 13, 2026) — Authorities are investigating a fatal crash late Tuesday morning on northbound Interstate 5 Freeway just north of West Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident was reported on Jan. 13th at approximately 11:27 a.m. CHP logs indicate that when officers arrived, there were no vehicles stopped in the immediate area. Shortly afterward, officers located a victim in the center divider on the southbound side of the freeway, just south of West Street, and requested the Yolo County Coroner.

Preliminary information suggests the victim may have been struck by a vehicle, possibly a big rig truck, based on wheel tracks observed at the scene. CHP requested assistance from Woodland Police Department to check nearby on-ramps and off-ramps for vehicles with damage that may be connected to the incident.

An air unit was requested and later cleared to assist with the investigation. No suspect vehicle had been immediately located, and it was unclear whether the driver involved remained in the area.

Traffic control was implemented while investigators processed the scene and coordinated with the coroner’s office. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The incident remains under active investigation. CHP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about a vehicle with front-end damage in the area to contact authorities.
