Deadly Rollover Crash on I-8 Freeway in Jacumba
JACUMBA, Calif. (June 3, 2022) – A fatal crash on the Interstate 8 Freeway happened Friday near Carrizo Gorge Road in Jacumba.
The collision occurred about 10 a.m. on June 3rd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a solo van carrying at least five people reportedly veered off the westbound side of the I-8 freeway due to unknown circumstances. The vehicle crashed into a boulder and overturned.
One person died and four others were injured including three with major injuries. Authorities say the van was possibly a military vehicle traveling in the southeastern reaches of San Diego County.
Paramedics airlifted three others to a hospital for treatment of severe injuries. The fourth patient suffered moderately serious trauma so they transported this patient by ground ambulance, police said.
Finally, the CHP is heading up an investigation into what happened.
