2 Killed, 5 Injured in Crash Near Del Rey
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 1, 2023) — Two people including a child died in a two-vehicle crash at East Jefferson Avenue and South Bethel Avenue, near Del Rey in Fresno County.
Five others were injured in the deadly crash reported around 8 a.m. on Sept. 1st between an SUV and a Honda sedan, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver in the Honda was traveling east on Jefferson Avenue when it collided with the driver of a northbound Chevrolet Suburban SUV, according to ABC 30 News. The SUV struck the car broadside at the intersection and pushed it off the road into an orchard.
Investigators are working to determine if the car drove through a stop sign when it reached Bethel Avenue. There are no stop signs for motorists traveling on South Bethel Avenue.
Paramedics responded and located a man and child inside the Honda who died at the scene. The Fresno County Sheriff Coroner identified them as Adrian Gonzalez, 27, of Fresno, and his 4-year-old nephew, Enrique Flores Jr., of Del Rey.
Meanwhile, there were five people traveling in the SUV who suffered injuries. They were transported to the hospital in unknown condition.
The cause of the crash and liability are yet to be determined. The case remains under investigation.
