2 Killed, 3 Injured in Police Pursuit Crash
STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 19, 2024) — Two young men were killed and three others were injured in a crash following a police pursuit at Keyes Road and Geer Road in Ceres, just north of Turlock.
The drivers of a red Ford Mustang and a dark-colored Ford Fusion collided at around 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18th in Stanislaus County, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Modesto station and KCRA.
A Ceres police officer was pursing a 20-year-old Modesto man driving a 2016 Ford Fusion sedan occupied by four people as the car headed eastbound on Keyes Road. The vehicle reached the intersection with Geer Road and collided into the front passenger side of a southbound 2016 Ford Mustang driven by a 17-year-old Hughson teen.
The Fusion driver and a 20-year-old man passenger riding with him in the sedan were both thrown out of the vehicle during the crash. Neither one of them was wearing their seatbelt, police said.
The Fusion was torn apart, but two backseat passengers survived with major injuries and were hospitalized. Authorities say those two passengers, who are also from Modesto, were both wearing their seatbelts.
Finally, the teenage driver in the red Mustang sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Investigators are working to determine if other factors contributed to the fatal crash on Keyes Road such as drugs and or alcohol.
