Man, 31, Killed in Crash in San Joaquin County
STOCKTON, Calif. (June 17, 2024) — A 31-year-old Stockton man died in a head-on crash Sunday on South Manthey Road near West Roth Road near French Camp, just south of Stockton.
The deadly crash occurred just after 12 p.m. on June 16th in San Joaquin County, just north of Bowman Road, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
CHP officials reported the man was driving a silver Nissan Altima at a “high rate of speed” behind another driver in a black Mazda 3.
The motorist moved into oncoming traffic in an attempt to pass the Mazda, but crashed head-on into a black sedan and overturned several times. The vehicle caught on fire after it landed on its wheels in a field, but the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
The Stockton and Lathrop-Manteca fire departments responded to extinguish the flames and tend to those hurt in the crash, but the driver from the Nissan died on scene.
At this time, it’s unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash. Detectives are working on the case.
