CLOVIS, Calif. (May 30, 2023) – A fatal crash just north of Clovis at Minnewawa Avenue and International Avenue in Fresno County.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 29th between two motorists, Your Central Valley reports.
Fatal Minnewawa Avenue Crash
Wallowa Bates, 22, was allegedly speeding when she drove her Mercedes Benz through a stop sign on International Avenue and broadsided a Honda traveling on Minnewawa Avenue. The Honda was being driven by Jennifer Ellis, 45, with her two children in the back seat. Authorities believe the Mercedes Benz was traveling at twice the speed limit when the collision occurred.
The woman driving the Honda died at the scene, but her two children ages 8 and 10 years old were hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
Wallowa Bates was also taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor, but because of her alleged traffic violations she faces felony vehicular manslaughter charges. She was booked into jail, but posted bond and was released.
The fatal crash on Minnewawa Avenue remains under investigation.
