Deadly Hit-and-run Crash on Northbound Highway 101
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. (August 25, 2021) — A fatal crash near Goleta early Wednesday happened on the northbound Highway 101 at Winchester Canyon Road in Santa Barbara County.
UPDATE: Cameron Martinez, 31, of Solvang, identified as victim killed in Hwy 101 crash
The deadly crash happened about 2:15 a.m. on August 25th in the western Goleta Valley and Gaviota Coast, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Cameron Martinez was driving a gray 2016 Hyundai Sonata that collided with a second vehicle collided due to unknown circumstances. The second vehicle reportedly fled the scene without stopping to help the victim in the Hyundai.
Meanwhile, a second deadly collision happened about the same time on the southbound Highway 101 around 2:15 a.m.
There are no further details about the second crash. Police closed down the northbound Highway 101 at Dos Pueblos Canyon Road for hours to investigate the collisions. The lanes reopened about 7:45 a.m. and investigators with the CHP continue to work on the case.
